Exciton
A bound state of an electron (negative charge) and an ‘imaginary’ particle called a hole (positive charge).  This pair of particles allows for the transport of energy without transporting net charge. Excitons describe charge flow through semiconductors. Their quantum confinement imbues nanomaterials with size and shape dependent (optoelectronic) properties.
