ACS Divisions in Focus: Overview

The American Chemical Society's technical divisions are a professional resource that will help you keep up with the latest developments in your current area of specialization, monitor advances in related fields, stay in touch with favorite subject areas that may later affect your career, network with colleagues, and contribute to the advancement and recognition of your discipline. The divisions make it easy with technical programming at national and regional meetings, timely publications, special social functions, prestigious awards, and focused educational programs.

Nanoscience and nanotechnology researchers are members of many technical divisions. The ones listed below might be of interest to you!

Analytical Chemistry

The alliance with the American Chemical Society and partnership with the Analytical Sciences Digital Library (ASDL) helps the Analytical Chemistry division to bring up to date information and useful resources to those practicing and learning about scientific measurement. You are encouraged to visit our web site often to find the most relevant online information and services while building an online community of scientists from all areas.

Colloid and Surface Chemistry

The research interests of the division members are inherently interdisciplinary and diverse: our members investigate the interaction of surfaces with fluids having molecular densities spanning the range from liquids to ultra-high vacuum. Among disciplines represented in the division are physical chemistry, chemical physics, materials science, biochemistry, electrochemistry, and chemical engineering. The goal of the Division of Colloid and Surface Chemistry is to promote creative research: the exchange of scientific information by and between members representing the various disciplines that make up the Division.

Inorganic Chemistry

The Division of Inorganic Chemistry represents a diverse body of scientists who come together to understand and promote the richness of the chemistry of the elements. Molecular biologists, materials scientists, and many types of chemists are members of this division. Due to the diversity of interests among our members, four subdivisions are available for membership in addition to the general membership in the Division.

Physical Chemistry

The principal objectives of the Division of Physical Chemistry are the advancement of knowledge in the field of physical chemistry and the advancement of knowledge in other fields of science that depend upon developments in physical chemistry. To further these aims, the division arranges programs of related papers at national meetings, provides symposia planned either to catalyze progress in certain fields or to acquaint larger audiences with the problems and achievements of specialized groups of workers, and renders various services that facilitate research, reporting of the results of research, and the dissemination of knowledge.
