What is ACS Nanotation?
ACS Nanotation (www.acsnanotation.org) is a community-based website1-2 sponsored by ACS Publications which launched in October 2007. The goal of ACS Nanotation is to be the premiere destination for nanoscience and nanotechnology news, highlights, and community. The site is targeted to nanoscience researchers, students, and enthusiasts in the field.
How is ACS Nanotation related to ACS journals (e.g., ACS Nano and Nano Letters)?
ACS Nanotation is a project sponsored by ACS Publications and overlaps with but is independent from other ACS journals.
Is use of the site free?
Yes! All features on ACS Nanotation are freely available.
What are the benefits of registering an account?
By registering an account, you will be able to contribute your content to ACS Nanotation and submit video/images/text, and comment on existing content. Registration is free and open to the public.
What are the features of ACS Nanotation?
Nano Picks features experts that select and critically analyze the most significant recent literature across the breath of nanoscience and nanotechnology scholary works. Nano Picks invites commentary from registered users on the various reviewed articles, and acts as an online "journal club". The most recent reviews are linked directly from the homepage and others are available via the 'Nano Picks' navigation tab. Additionally, profiles of each are available by clicking on the reviewer name when viewing the "Nano Picks by Reviewer" page.
NanoTube is a video playback platform with user ratings and comments enabled. Registered users can submit short videos describing their recent research papers or techniques used in their labs; sumbission of any educational and/or insightful nano-related video is encouraged. A filming guide and technical instructions are available.
The Image Gallery is a image collection organized into albums containing interesting images.
Ask the Scientist is a scientific question-and-answer forum where scientists at any stage of their careers ask leaders in the field about their research, careers in nanotechnology, and advice for getting started in nanoscience. New questions are welcome.
The Wiki is a collaborative editing space designed to organize information related to nanoscience. Current topics include symposia at ACS National Meetings, Nano Centers, Nano Glossary, Key Researchers, Nanotechnology in Commercial Products, and Community-based Nano Websites. Editing is open to any registered user.
The Podcasts page (available via the 'Multimedia' navigation tab) links to free ACS Nanotation-related podcasts.
The Events page is a comprehensive calendar listing of international conferences in the nanoscience and nanotechnology field. New event contributions are welcome.
What was NanoVision?
NanoVision, based on the Image Gallery, was a monthly contest active in 2008 where winning images were selected by ACS staff. Winners were awarded a $50 Visa Gift Card.
The contest is now closed but image contributions to the Image Gallery are welcomed.
How can I contribute to ACS Nanotation?
There are numerous ways that you can contribute: submit a video to NanoTube, edit a term or discussion topic on the wiki, submit a question to our Ask the Scientist expert, or comment on a Nano Picks review.
What are the site requirements of ACS Nanotation?
Portions of ACS Nanotation (i.e., images featured on the Home page, Image Gallery, and NanoTube) reply on Adobe Flash Player. A high-speed internet connection is needed to view some multimedia features.
