Dr. Rachel Smith

Area of Research:
Rachel’s research interests lie in the design and synthesis of functional nanostructures and interfaces. She is particularly interested in the structures and reactivity of transition metal nanoparticles and metal-oxide nanoparticle heterostructures.
Area of Expertise:
self- and directed assembly, inorganic nanostructures, scanning probe microscopy
Biography:
Rachel Smith is currently a post-doctoral scholar in the Materials Science Division at Berkeley National Laboratory, working with Paul Alivisatos. She obtained her Ph.D. in Chemistry in 2005 at The Pennsylvania State University under the direction of Paul Weiss. She received her undergraduate degrees in Biochemistry and Spanish at the University of Oregon in 1999.
